Wonder Workshop Group Shot

On Sunday, May 2nd, forty girls attended Fashion: The REAL 411 — a behind-the-scenes look at the business of fashion. The event was held at LIM Fashion College in Manhattan, NY. Seventeen magazine’s Editor-In-Chief Ann Shoket kicked off the day by telling the girls about her career in journalism and the myriad ways to pursue their passion in the fashion industry, encouraging each of them to “dream bigger.”

Wardrobe WorkshopNext came a series of three interactive workshops over three hours — the girls chose from among nine different speakers, all industry insiders, each offering a different perspective on the business. They learned about being a fashion editor from Seventeen’s Gina Kelly; Shaari Gross of Focus Showroom taught them about how to present and sell lines to buyers; Jill Snowden of The Sak Group taught them how to make a PR product pitch; model Jill Johnson told them about the real world of modeling and gave them some valuable insider’s tips; accessories designer Lauren Walsh described her rise from intern to head designer; Tammy Tibbetts talked about her organization, donatemydress.org; designer Abigail Lorick gave the girls a primer in putting together a collection; Sarah Johnson talked about online retailing; and stylist Mia Morgan gave the girls a behind-the-scenes look at wardrobing.

Necklace WorkshopAll the girls then went on to design and create their own tromp l’oeil necklace t-shirt — the results were as chic and individual as each of the girls.

The fabulous Stacy London, celebrity stylist and host of “What Not To Wear” finished the afternoon with her sage advice about expressing one’s personality through fashion. She implored the girls to celebrate their differences, assuring each one of them that they are a snowflake, perfect on the inside and the outside, just as they are.

It was a day that they’ll all remember for many years to come! For a press review of the afternoon, go to http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/personal-finance/real–fashion-surface/#

On February 21, 2010 twenty WonderGirls and their mothers attended “Life 101: Nurturing Your Best Self.” It was a fantastic day of learning, laughing and sharing. Everyone began the day by breaking the ice with chick rocker Naomi Less and then headed off to workshops — moms with moms, girls with girls. Workshop leader and nutritionist Jessica Levinson, shared tips about eating well to look and feel fabulous. Organizing guru Jennifer Zwiebel gave both groups secrets to living a well-ordered life.

Author Susan Barash led lively discussions about toxic friendships and “frenemies.” Jennifer Edwards taught everyone about relaxing, de-stressing and keeping their lives in balance. After the workshops and some snacks, everyone met with Pamela Moss to create their personal inspiration boards and then….the fabulous and hilarious actress Kristen Johnston shared her quirky take on “Life 101″, talking about how to combat bullying, and how to embrace what makes each of us special!
